Winifred C. Whitfield, 96, of Panama City, passed peacefully, Wednesday, May 22, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was born September 30, 1922 in Gateswood, Alabama to W.C. and Ethel Cooper. She was a 1941 graduate of Bay High School where she played clarinet in the band. She worked as secretary and was one of the owners of W.C. Cooper Plumbing and Heating Co. Mrs. Whitfield was a faithful member of Springfield Baptist Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Curtis Whitfield; her parents; three brothers, Joe Cooper, James Cooper, W.C. Cooper, Jr.; one sister, Ruthie Scott and son-in-law, Larry McNeil.
She is survived by two sons, Preston Whitfield (Quin) of Royal Palm Beach, FL, Douglas Whitfield (Pam) of Panama City; two daughters, Linda McNeil of Panama City, Joan Celeste Evans (Bill) of Stockbridge, GA; five grandchildren, Heidi Fowler (Kenneth) of Panama City, Kelly Harris of Stockbridge, GA, April Rowinski (Paul) of Mooresville, NC, Daniel Salmons of Stockbridge, GA and Sierra Whitfield of Tallahassee, FL; six great grandchildren, Holly Jordan, Jesse and Chase Harris, John, Elisa and Adam Rowinski and one great- great granddaughter, Raeleigh Hill. Also many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 25, 2019 in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10-11 am prior to the service. Flowers are accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Springfield Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
