Obituary

Wilton Shelby Brown (known to friends as "Buddy" or "Red") 92, long time resident of Panama City went to be with the Lord on June 12th after a short struggle with cancer. Buddy was born in Avant, Mississippi on May 10 th 1928.

He was preceeded in death by his parents Shelby Barnes and Lemmie Lee (Slay) Brown as well as siblings Mary Louise (Brown) Smith, Robert G. Brown, Harold Ned and Carol Ted Brown.  He is survived by one sister, Betty E. (Brown) Millergren.

Red leaves behind his wife of nearly 72 years, Dorothy A (Baughan) Brown; His children, Rebecca L. (Robert) Pahl, Raymond F.  (Maureen) Brown, Julie A.(Lee) Casey and Nancy J. (Thomas) Morgan. He was blessed with five grandchildren, Michelle Cooper, Amanda Garverich, Shelby (Erica) Casey, Garrett Casey and Sarah Morgan. There are also five great grand children Owen Garverich, Hunter Zellefrow, Kayden, Karsyn and Kylen Riddle.

Buddy attended Perkinston College in Mississippi where he met his wife "Dot".  From there he served in the Navy during WWII from 1945 to 1948 on the Aircraft Carrier USS Princeton.  He went on to serve in Korea and in the Vietnam era with the Air Force from 1950 to1972.  When he retired as a SMSGT,  he finished his education at Gulf Coast and sold real estate.

He was a long time member and deacon at Northside Baptist Church, a Boy Scout Leader, volunteer firefighter, coach, avid gardener, fisherman and huge Gator Fan.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 16th from 5:00PM to 7:00 PM at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel located at 214 Airport Road in Panama City.  His  Praise Service will also be held there on Wednesday, June 17th at 10:00 AM.  Burial will follow at Jehu Cemetery in Wewahitchka.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Building Fund at City Church at Northside located at 530 Airport Rd, Panama City, Florida 32405

The family also would like to thank long time family care givers Penny Miller and Jan Cox  as well as the staff of Emerald Coast Hospice and Compassionate Love Home Care.
