Obituary

Wilmer Clifford West
November 1, 1926 – August 7, 2020
On August 7, 2020, Wilmer C. "Cliff" West, 93, entered into his eternal home. His heavenly father reached down, took his hand and said, "Come home my good and faithful servant, job well done!". Bro. Cliff's departure leaves great sadness and loss among family and friends. However, the celebration in Heaven was great as he was welcomed by loved ones who were waiting for him. Those left behind can hear Bro. Cliff's contagious laughter.
Cliff was born on November 1, 1926 in Bratt, FL to Levada and Wilmer West. In 1944, he joined the Navy and was stationed at Fernandina Beach, FL until the end of the war. He then returned to Bratt to complete his high school education. It was there he met the love of his life, Mable Smith. They were married on June 4, 1948 in Bay Minette, AL. Also, in 1948, he began his career with Gulf Power Co. in Pensacola, FL in the Meter Dept. He later transferred to Panama City where he was a dependable, loyal employee until his retirement in 1989 after 41 years of service.
Bro. Cliff was a faithful member of Hiland Park Baptist Church for 72 years. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and served on numerous committees. But his passion was teaching the Senior Men's Sunday School Class which he taught for 43 years. His ministry was witnessing to his class members as well as anyone who needed him. His quiet presence was a blessing to all he came in contact with. His Hospital Ministry helped many who were in need of peace and calmness during very difficult times. Bro. Cliff touched the lives of so many, and he will be sorely missed.
Bro. Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, and a special Aunt Parazada Hanks. Left to cherish his memories are two daughters, Jeanie Brahier (David), Pam Hood (Jerome); two grandsons, Kevin Brahier of Dunedin, FL, Erik Gann (Amanda) of Panama City, FL and three great grandchildren as well as one brother, Wilford West of Brooksville, FL.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at 2 pm in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Social distancing and masks are requested. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in memory of Cliff West to the Building Fund of Hiland Park Baptist Church, 2611 N Highway 231, Panama City, FL 32405. The family would like to thank Dr. Healey and Dr. Akin for their many years of kind and caring treatment and caregiver, Laura Grant, for her dedicated care.
A leader of men and a man of honor, Bro. Cliff will be remembered for his good example, character, faithfulness, integrity and genuineness. Gentle spirit and kind words were his trademark. He truly was a hero!
