Willis O'Neal Martin
Willis O'Neal Martin, 85, of Lynn Haven, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, February 02, 2014. He was born in Montgomery, AL. He was a graduate of Georgia Tech with a B.A. in Aeronautical Engineering and was a retired Captain in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve. Mr. Martin was employed by Lockheed Martin, in Ft. Worth, TX and Marietta, GA; Bell/Textron, Panama City Beach, FL and Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, WA. He was a member of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Mr. Martin was a licensed professional engineer in the state of Florida. After retirement he devoted himself to woodworking and maintained a library of woodworking projects. In his early days he liked to hunt and fish. He was an avid fan of Georgia Tech sports. Mr. Martin was an active member of the Senior Men's Sunday School Class at Northside Baptist Church, where he also taught Sunday school in his earlier years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis Nicholas Martin and Lillian O'Neal Martin. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Winifred H. Martin; a daughter, Margaret Braden of Slidell, LA; a son, Pat Martin (Lisa); and grandsons, Saylor Martin and Ian Martin all of Panama City Beach, FL. The family will receive friends at Wilson Funeral Home on Friday, February 7, 2014 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Luther Sanford and Dr. Jerry Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank Covenant Hospice and the staff at the MICU at Bay Medical Sacred Heart for their love and support during Willis' final illness. In lieu of flowers the family requests that remembrances be sent to the Building Fund at Northside Baptist Church.
