William "Bill" Tweedy, 96, of Panama City, passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2022.  He was born August 27, 1925 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of  Roy & Katherine Tweedy.  He attended various schools in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and received his high school diploma from Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, New Jersey in 1943.  He enlisted in the United States Navy in March 1943 and served until 1947.  His duty stations included 2 ½ years onboard Air Craft Carrier, USS Solomon in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and six months onboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt in the Atlantic.  After his discharge, he attended and graduated from Temple University with an accounting degree.  After six years employed by private industry in St. Petersburg, he moved to Panama City in 1959.  He was employed at Tyndall AFB and the Navy Defense Lab as Chief Accountant and later as Comptroller.  He retired from civil service in 1980 but worked for Bell Aerospace until 1989 in the LCAC program.  His main interests were traveling nationwide and was proud to say he had visited at least 40 of the 50 states.  In his younger days, he participated in football, basketball and baseball.  Later on he was an avid golfer playing into his eighties.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Lynne Ann Tweedy. He is survived by his lovely and dear wife, Jane, children, Mike, Dan, Jan (David); grandchildren, Roy (Jeanie), Daisy, Rachel; great grandchildren, Pearl, Roy Jr and his Powell family.  Graveside services will be held on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at 2:30 p.m.  in the Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Wilson Funeral Home from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church in memory of William Tweedy.
