William Herbert Shores
William Herbert Shores, 92, of Panama City, Fla., died Monday, February 22, 2010, at his home. He was born October 12, 1917, in Jackson County, Fla. He had been a resident of Panama City since 1948, moving here from Cottondale, Fla. He was a member of St. Andrew Baptist Church, retired from The Post Office, a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, and a World War II Veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years Hazel W. Shores, parents, Henry and Ara Shores; and brother Horace Shores. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Avis Keen; granddaughter, Natalie Keen; all of Panama City, Fla., numerous nieces and nephews, and caregiver, Annette Grant. Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 24, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplin Charles Bias and Scott Ervin officiating. Asked to serve as pallbearers are Willis Holley, Ken Shealy, Sean Lathrop, John Drummond, Larry Cox, and Austin Page. Asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are active and retired Letter Carriers, and members of the NALC. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday February 24, 2010 from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Those wishing may in lieu of flowers make donations to the Music at St. Andrews Music Series, c/o Jim Prater, 2001 West 11th Street Panama City, Fla. 32401, in memory of Herbert Shores.
