(Bill) Chatoney Jr.
January 23, 1936 – September 16, 2017
William H. (Bill) Chatoney, Jr., of Southport, FL, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2017, into the Loving Arms of Our Lord and Savior. He believed in Jesus, and in a strong sense of worthy work ethics; the qualities that true friends are made.
Bill was born January 23, 1936, in Belzoni, MS. His schooling began in Belzoni, then in Delta City, MS, and graduated high school in Rolling Fork, MS. He graduated in Engineering at Hinds Junior College, and received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering at Mississippi State University in August 1957. His engineering career began in Columbus, OH, with Jeffrey Mfg. Co. for two years. He then relocated to Natchez, MS, in plant engineering for International Paper Co. (IPCO) for eight months. He transferred to IPCO Research in Mobile, AL. In 1962, Bill transferred to IPCO Construction at Bastrop, LA, for five years. He became a Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer in the State of Louisiana.
Bill returned to Mobile, AL, to head up the IPGO Paper Mill Department in the Central Design Engineering for one year before being transferred to New York, NY, and then on to Lewisburg, PA, to design the IPCO Nonwoven Mill. His final transfer was to the IPCO Panama City, FL, Mill, where he resigned in 1972. Bill started his own construction companies and mini warehouse business. His businesses were successful for 31 years, until his retirement in 2003.
Mr. Chatoney was a member of the Lynn Haven United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marguerite Helen Bain Chatoney; father, William Henry Chatoney, Sr.; wife, Billie Katrina Brown Chatoney; sister, Mary Elsie Nowell.
He is survived by three children, Mike Chatoney (Beth), Karen C Williams (Lanier), Tammy C. Hales (Mike); seven grandchildren, Doug Williams (Jennifer), Mike Williams (Amanda), Jeff Hates (Holly), Lindsey Hall (Keith), Chris Hales (Julia), Landon Chatoney, Kayla Hales (Garrett); nine great grandchildren, Travis Dutton, Ryland Spitzer, Mikayla Agbay, Gracie Williams, Mikey Williams, Byron Hales, Ave Hales, Bennett Hales, Sidney Kate Hall, all of Panama City; a brother, Walter Dwayne Chatoney (Maggie), Lake Charles, LA, sister, Florence Marguerite Albizuri of Sulphur, LA; aunt, Ada Mae Tolar of Ocean Springs, MS, and special long-time friends, Jerald Smithgall and Tom Guinn.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday September 19, 2017 in the Wilson
Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 to 11 am, prior to the service. Active pallbearers will be the grandsons.
