WILLIAM H. BYERS
William H. "Bill" Byers passed away Saturday, April 17, 2010, at his home in Panama City, Florida, at the age of 92.
Mr. Byers was born on September 18, 1917, to Mamie and James Byers, in Statesville, NC. He grew up in Dothan, Alabama, later serving with the U.S. Army in the Philippine Islands during the Second World War. Following the war, he moved to Panama City in 1947, and began working with Ideal Baking Co. In 1965, he became Director of the Bay County Housing Authority. He retired in 1973.
Mr. Byers was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Panama City. He also was a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club. He was very active with the American Cancer Society in Panama City, which he served as a member of the Board of Directors, and as President. In his very full and active life, Mr. Byers had a passion for golf, and was a member of the Panama City Country Club for more than thirty years.
Mr. Byers was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Byers Thompson and Rose Byers Campbell, brother, James Byers and grandson, Craig Alan Byers. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Jeannette McNab Byers, of Panama City, FL; son, James Wade Byers and wife, Delores Branning Byers, of Palm Harbor, FL; daughter, Jeannette Byers Chapman and husband Joseph F. Chapman, of Panama City, FL; grandchildren, James W. Byers, Jr. of New Port Richey, FL; Mary Marie Chapman Clemo and husband Scott, of Panama City, FL, Joey Chapman and wife Pamm, of Panama City, FL, Kristian Byers Chapman and wife Stacie, of Orlando, FL, Suzanne Delores Byers of Largo, FL, David Chapman and wife Kelli, of Panama City, FL; great-grandchildren, Si Clemo, Rose Clemo, Sunny Clemo, William Craig (Cubby) Clemo, all of Panama City, FL, Joseph Chapman, Nathan Chapman, Elizabeth Chapman, all of Panama City, FL, Gabrielle Chapman, Kasey Chapman, both of Orlando, FL, David Chapman, Mac Chapman, Jake Chapman, all of Panama City, FL, Tristan Joseph Byers-Brauckmann, of Largo, FL and two sisters-in-law, Barbara McNab Battey and husband, Peter, of Palm City, FL and Betty Ethridge McNab of Valparaiso, FL. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 19, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in the Greenwood Cemetery.
