William "Sam" Atkinson
1941 - 2010
William "Sam" Atkinson, 68, of Panama City FL, lost his battle with cancer, on Sunday, August 29, 2010. A native of Wilmington, NC, Sam is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rose; two sons, Eric, Panama City, and Wade (Becky) and grandchildren, Nathaniel and Sophie, of Ooltewah, Tennessee; his mother, Virginia Ruth, two sisters and a brother, Carolyn Midgette, Alma Jean (Gil) Irving, and Howard (Dee), Wilmington, NC, a brother, Ray (Carole), of Hondo, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews. He loved his family and his grandchildren were the joy of his life.
Sam served honorably in the U. S. Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He returned to Panama City where he worked for several years at Bay Medical Center as a bio-med supervisor and made many loyal friends.
The family will receive friends at Wilson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7 – 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held in Wilmington NC at a future date. Those desiring may make memorial donations to Covenant Hospice, 107 W 19th Street, Panama City, FL 32405.
