IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William "Bill"
A. Cooper Jr.
June 29, 1944 – February 12, 2025
The Honorable William "Bill" A. Cooper, Jr., 80, of Panama City, FL passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 in Inman, South Carolina. Bill was born on June 29, 1944 in Panama City, FL to William A. Cooper Sr. and Ruby Vick Cooper. Bill received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida in 1967. He then began Law School at the University of Florida, but halted his studies to proudly serve in the United States Navy. During his time in the Navy he was stationed in Guam and Coronado while also serving on the USS Force minesweeper. After serving his country, Bill received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida in June of 1974. He then began his career as an attorney by being employed with the law firm of Davenport, Johnson, Harris, Gerde and Harrison. In November of 1976, Bill fell in love with and married his wife, Tonnie after a chance meeting in the courtroom. Four years and two daughters later, he was appointed as a Judge in the 14th circuit of Bay County where he proudly served his community for 21 years.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William A Cooper, Sr. and Ruby Vick Cooper, his sisters Carolyn C. Fleming and Patricia C. Davis and a nephew Sam C. Fleming II. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Tonnie Cooper as well as their two daughters, Meredith Yoder (Robert) of Boiling Springs, SC and Patricia "Trish" Hogan (Charles) of Athens, GA. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren; Madeline "Reese," Caroline, and Samuel Yoder and Kathryne "Cooper," Charley, and Collins Hogan. He was known as "Buddy" to his nieces and nephews that were more like siblings; and was a beloved "Uncle Buddy" to many great nieces and nephews.
Bill was known for his love of a good joke and delighting in the attention of others. He was never able to leave any event quickly due to his desire to speak to every person in attendance on his way out the door. Bill was also a fierce protector of his two daughters yet wasn't above making them sit in on Spring Break court to teach them a lesson or two on "what not to do." He was a respected man and was frequently sought after for advice and guidance. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Panama City where he could often be heard singing solos in the church choir.
Bill's passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family members, but his spirit will live on in the laughter of every joke and witty comment. He was not afraid of death due to the fact that he was confident of and excited for eternity in heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church of Panama City, FL. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends starting at 1pm prior to the service on Tuesday.
