Mr. Walter Russell "Rusty" Stanley, age 70, passed away Friday, September 25, 2020 at his home in Panama City, Florida.

Mr. Stanley was born October 21,1949 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Walter J and Verlie R Stanley.

He was a graduate of Bay High School and Fayetteville State University. Rusty served honorably in the United States Army including two tours in the Vietnam War where he received many commendations including the Purple Heart. Mr. Stanley retired as Captain of the Smithfield Police Department in which he served and protected the town of Smithfield, NC for 30 years. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion. Rusty had great love and respect for God and country.

Survived by his wife, Debra C Stanley; three children, Walter Brian Stanley, Russell Coley Stanley(Jennifer), Dana W. Daughtry(Haywood); three grandchildren, Cy Daughtry, Sef Stanley, Sydney Stanley; two brothers, Grady(Sharon) and Lonnie Stanley(Betsy).

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Smithfield, NC.
