Obituary

Walter Lee Cowan, Jr., 76, of Panama City, passed away Monday, January 23, 2012 in his home. He was born February 3, 1935 in Panama City to Walter Lee Cowan, Sr. and Maxie Stephens Cowan. He was a retired Chief Plumbing Inspector for Bay County and also taught Plumbing and Welding at Haney Technical Institute. Mr. Cowan was a member of Temple Baptist Church and the National Guard. He was also a member of Campers on Mission where he went all over the country to build and remodel churches. Mr. Cowan was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Bessie Dunn and Hazel Jean Smith. He is survived by his wife, Frankie Joanne Cowan; two children, Walter Lee Cowan, III, Christine Marie Turner and one grandchild, Alexis Lilly. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Rayburg officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 2813 E Hwy 390, Panama City, FL 32405; St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105; or to the Florida Baptist Children's Home, 1015 Sikes Blvd., Lakeland, FL 33815 in memory of Walter Lee Cowan, Jr.
