Wallace Morley Edmands, Jr., passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013.
He was born on June 11, 1929 in Richmond, VA, to Teresa and Wally Edmands, and grew up in Belmont, Massachusetts. He attended Boston College where he graduated in 1951 with a BS in Business Administration. After attending the Army Officer Candidate School, completing a 3-year tour of duty and attaining rank of Lieutenant, Wally married long time sweetheart and fellow Belmont High School classmate, Ruth Mead, on May 21, 1955.
In 1987, Wally retired after 34 years with Ford Motor Company in sales and marketing.
Wally and Ruth, have been long time residents of Sandestin, splitting the summer months between his beloved summer cottage in Harvard, MA and Atkinson, NH.
Wally was an active member of the Sacred Heart Emerald Coast Volunteer Association and the Sandestin Lions Club. He was a member of the Sandestin Owners Association and served in leadership roles in several homeowners associations in FL and NH over recent years. He was a parishioner at St. Rita's Catholic Church.
Wally enjoyed worldwide traveling, gardening, boating, reading, golf and was a life long fan of the Red Sox. Some of his fondest times were spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's extracurricular activities. He was extremely proud of all of them.
Wally is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Mead Edmands, their 4 children and spouses, Wallace M. Edmands, III (Chip) and Mary Russell of Fayetteville, Ga., Jack Edmands and Judy Edmands of Germantown, TN., Lindsey Edmands Burns and Jack Burns, of Beaverton, OR and Kim Edmands Hicks and Lee Hicks of High Bridge, NJ. His grandchildren, Zach Edmands, Matthew Edmands, Taryn Burns, Joseph Edmands, Delaney Burns, Keon Burns, Amy Hicks, and Jenny Hicks as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive him. His brother, Robert Edmands, MD, predeceases him.
Wally will be remembered for his unabashed love for Ruth and his family, his generosity and dedication to friends, and his strong work ethic.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, on Saturday, May 25th at 12:00 pm.
