Vonceil Boswell passed away on January 26, 2026 at 92 years of age. She was born May 30, 1933 in Millville, Fla. She was the youngest daughter of Alexander and Mary Pearl Brown. One brother, Frank (Geraldine) Brown of Panama City, Fla., and four sisters, Odessa (Loftin) Day of Callaway, Fla., Mozelle (Larry) Hess of Hammond, Ind., Roma (Dick) Boswell of Parker, Fla., and Elizabeth (W. P. “Dave”) Davis of Thomasville, Ga. all preceded her in death.
She has two children: Shelia (Frank) Martin of Panama City, Fla., and Stephen (Esperanza) Boswell of Warner Robins, Ga. She loved her grandchildren and loved being a grandmother to Joshua Martin of Panama City, Fla., Elisa (Randy) Bermejo of Palm Bay, Fla., Deidra (Ryan) Dimes of Macon, Ga., Dr. Jacob (Annie) Martin of Panama City, Fla. And Natalie (Dakota) Dobbs of Macon, Ga. She also loved her great-grandchildren Amaranto, Shiloh, Zenia, Josie, Braxton and Callaghan.
She was a life-time member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church where it began on 11th Street. She started being a greeter in the 1950’s, continuing for 70 years into her late 80’s to its present location on Lisenby Avenue. She was also active with the church’s evangelism effort, acting as a greeter to all the visitors whether at the municipal center or the church itself. She also participated in the community garage sale the church would have each year, making sure Elvis was playing on the sound system because the repeat customers loved it so much. She also served as the church school librarian for many years.
She was a hospital volunteer in her 70’s and 80’s, taking patients water, juice and taking care of their requests as best she could. She really enjoyed this time very much and tried to make every patient feel loved and cared for. The patients enjoyed her as well as the nurses.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Denford Boswell. He spoiled her lovingly and they had a wonderful life together. Denford worked over 30 years at HG Harders & Son Construction Company and Vonceil was a hard-working housewife. The house was and had to remain spotless. The kids, cousins and neighborhood children would ride bicycles for hours around the driveway with Vonceil peeking through the picture window watching over them. Vonceil and Denford loved their garden and spent the summers shelling peas and shucking corn and putting it all in the freezer. They loved the animals they had in the backyard from the pony, turkeys and chickens, to the pheasants and peacocks. They also started off with two goats. Two years later they had 32! Then we had a bar-b-que. Denford died in 1994 the day before Thanksgiving.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 1 at 12:00 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 214 Airport Rd., Panama City, FL 32405, with visitation one hour prior (11:00 a.m.) to the service. Those desiring to make a memorial donation in the memory of Vonceil Boswell please send donation to the Panama City SDA Church, designated to the church Building Fund. This will benefit our church school which she loved.
