IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia Sharpe
Gioiello
March 11, 1928 – December 6, 2019
Virginia Sharpe Gioiello, 91, of Panama City, passed away at her home on Friday, December 6, 2019. She was born on March 11, 1928. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John A. Gioiello. She loved her family. She loved Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord. She passed on that love to her children. She was an amazing mother, making sacrifices to ensure that her children had experiences she had missed out on in her childhood. She was a Cub Scout den mother, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She sat in the hot sun while her children took swimming lessons. In her 50s, she finally learned to swim. While her children were young, she went to college and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Florence State College. She majored in history and English. Her scholarship won her invitations to join these honor and professional societies: Sigma Tau Delta, Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Alpha Theta. After finishing college, a job transfer took the family to Owensboro, KY. There she was a much- requested substitute teacher. She joined Beta Sigma Phi, a service organization. She enjoyed their activities very much. In 1974, she and her husband moved to Trussville, AL. During their time in Trussville, Virginia participated in the church's literacy program and helped several adults learn to read. Following her husband's retirement, the family moved to Panama City. She and her husband loved to travel, so they bought an RV and toured the United States, including Alaska. They also had the opportunity to travel to France and Italy. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Panama City and the Rose Sunday School Class. Her love, sweet smile and sparkling blue eyes will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her son, John L. Gioiello; daughter Julia Gioiello; and grandson, John A. Gioiello II (Ashley) of Panama City, FL, her granddaughter, Virginia "Gina" Davis (Matt) of Birmingham, AL, her sister, Doris Jean Ferguson and brother, Leslie Sharpe (Brenda) of Ocala, FL, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Virginia loved children. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Anchorage Children's Home, 2121 Lisenby Ave., Panama City, FL 32405; St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; Florida Baptist Children's Homes, PO Box 8190, Lakeland, FL 33802; or an organization of your choice that benefits children. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clyde Ellison officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11-12 pm prior to the service. Active pallbearers will be Floyd Cassady, Matt Davis and Sammy Stockstill.
