Obituary

Mrs. Charles H. (Violet) Fischer, 101, of Panama City passed away on December 27, 2016.  She was born in Ft. Sumner, New Mexico October 6, 1915, after high school she moved to Clovis, New Mexico where she resided until moving to Panama City, Florida in 1972.  After an early career as a hairdresser she was a devoted wife and loving mother and "Nannie" to her family and also was the matriarch of a newspaper family with her husband and all three sons being publishers of various newspapers at one time including each serving as either publisher or general manager of the Panama City News Herald.   She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Panama City.  Among her many activities she was a member of the Panama City Garden Club, a State and National Life member of the garden clubs and a Master Flower Show Judge Emeritus and at one time served as the editor of the New Mexico State Garden Club magazine.  She was a former member of the Panama City Woman's Club, International Affairs Department.  She is a Distinguished Life Member of the Gulf Coast State College Foundation.

She was predeceased by her husband Charles H. Fischer, Sr., her parents Joseph and Elizabeth Osborne and her brothers Robert and Stephen Walter Osborne.

She is survived by her three sons and daughters in law:  Scott Fischer, Mayor of Destin, Florida and his wife Roxanne; Charles Fischer, Jr. and his wife Vonnie of Bay Point, Sam Fischer and his wife Wanda of Panama City.  Her grandchildren Cari LoTurco (Ed), Elizabeth Williams, Charles Fischer, III (Teri), Phillip Fischer, Stephen Fischer and Michael Childers, her great grandchildren Aaron LoTurco, Jake Williams, Charles Fischer IV, Cadee Fischer and her sister Pat McClure of Albuquerque, New Mexico.   Also special family members Linda Fischer and Gail Bannister.

A visitation will take place at Wilson Funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday.

Graveside rites and internment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Friday at 11 a.m.    Those desiring may make memorial donations to the First Presbyterian Church of Panama City, the Panama City Garden Club or a charity of your choice in her memory.
