Vermell Peterson, 90, of Panama City Beach, left this earth to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 2, 2022.  Born on February 17, 1932 in Knoxhill, Florida, she was a native Floridian, a proud graduate of Vernon High School, and a longtime resident of Panama City and Panama City Beach since 1952.  A strong woman, loving mother and devoted wife, she raised a family of 5 while working at the dress factory, Friday Nights, Monie's, and Smiths over her career.  Giving her life to the Lord at a young age, she was a fierce warrior for Christ.  She served as an adult Sunday School Teacher for over 3 decades at Long Beach Assembly of God, Faith Covenant Fellowship of Chipley, and West Bay Community Church  houses of worship…she was always that prayer warrior that you reached out to in the darkest of hours.  She will be greatly missed, but we know her caring and compassion will continue to live in the hearts of those she touched.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, George Peterson; mother, Aner Lee Rushing; father, Hubert Rushing; and sister, Jean Rushing.  She is survived by three children, Sheila Pittman (Benny Pittman Sr.); Larry Peterson (Sandy); Greg Peterson (Judy); grandchildren, Marilyn Brown (Joe), Shawn Pittman (Heather), Scott Pittman (Silvia), Clinton Peterson, Kyle Peterson, Benny Pittman Jr. (Kelsey), Bryan Pittman; great grandchildren, Zach Brown, Peyton Brown, Paige Brown, Carter Pittman, Catalina Pittman, Alex Pittman, Fischer Pittman, Ryleigh Pittman; brother, Curtis Rushing; nieces and nephews, Sonia Bowers, Jeff Rushing, Curt Rushing, Elizabeth Deaton. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Gerald Owens and Reverend Cloys Joiner officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.  Interment will follow in the Lynn Haven Cemetery.
