ELIZABETH PETERSON GERTHS
Vashti Elizabeth Peterson Gerths died of cancer on Tuesday, June 02, 2009. May the Spirit of a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend pass on to the Lord. She was born on April 18, 1941, at the Lisenby Hospital in Panama City to Vashti and Charles Emory Peterson. She attended Panama Grammar, Jinks Jr. High and graduated from Bay High with honors in 1959. She also graduated from Florida State University, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
She taught school for several years in Pensacola, where she met and married Everett Earle (Moe) Gerths. They recently celebrated their 42nd anniversary.
She is survived by her husband, Everett (Moe) Gerths: her daughters; Pamela Kay (Curt) Hemmel, of Terra Ciea, FL, and Kimberly Elizabeth (Lee) Kent of Gulf Breeze FL, three grandchildren, Emory Elizabeth Hemmel, Lauren Elizabeth Kent, Ethan Earle Hemmel and one brother; Charles Carter Peterson
She lived in St. Louis for 11 years, then moved to Gulf Breeze FL for over 30 years. When her children were older, she worked for Prudential Insurance in Pensacola. She and her husband recently returned to the Panama City area after retirement.
She is a member of the Bay County Genealogy Society and the Bay County Historical Society. She has been a member of the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church for almost 30 years. She also received the Gulf Breeze Rotary Paul Harris Fellow Award. She enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, traveling, sewing, researching family history and Bible Study groups.
There will be a visitation at Wilson Funeral Home in Panama City from 6 o'clock to 8 o'clock on Thursday. There will also be another visitation at Rose Lawn Funeral Home in Gulf Breeze, FL from 6 o'clock to 8 o'clock Friday.
A graveside service will be held at Rose Lawn Cemetery, 2902 Gulf Breeze Pkwy in Gulf Breeze FL 32563 at 10 o'clock Saturday with Rev. Herb Sadler from Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church officiating.
