Travis "Rudy" Rudolph Nichols, 80, of Southport, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2016 in a local hospital. He was born August 5, 1935 in Southport and had been a lifelong resident of the area. He was a retired commercial fisherman. He was preceded in death by his father, John Angus Nichols, mother, Virgie Gray Mason Nichols, brother, Warren Wilton "Nick" Nichols and Charles Larry Starling. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rosalind Russell Nichols; two daughters, Virginia Ann Starling; Linda Lou Hall (Mike); son, Travis Nichols (Debbie); six grandchildren, Sheri Rogers (Craig); Brent Starling (Kelly); Michelle Hall, Mitchell Hall, Matthew Hall, Nicole Kuczer and six great grandchildren, Ashton Rogers, Mason Rogers, Delainey Starling, Barrett Starling, Macklin Hall and Morgan Hall;and two sisters, Joyce Skipper (Bill) and Doris Holland.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Southport with Brother Rick Blackerby officiating. Interment will follow in the Southport Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. Active pallbearers are Phil Mason, Daryl Mason, Jimmy Lovett, Calvin Sapp, Jason Gay, Edmond Lovett, Patrick Holland and Craig Rogers. Honorary pallbearers are his longtime friend, Dr. Tim Smith and his fellow fisherman and friends.
