Obituary

Rev. Thomas E. Vaughn

On Sunday, September 30, 2018, the Rev. Thomas E. Vaughn, "Tommy," slipped the bonds of earth and entered his eternal home.

Born in Austell, GA in 1950, Tommy is a graduate of Southeastern University and an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God. He was a minister's minister who helped and encouraged pastors and churches, went on short-term mission trips, and pastored two congregations. He ministered to many men through his barbershop that he owned for 25 years on Panama City Beach. Several who know him have insightfully and wisely referred to Bay Barber & Style Shop as the barbershop Tommy pastored. He also served his profession by being appointed by the Governor to serve on Florida's State Board of Barbers for 6 years, 3 of those as Vice-Chairman.

He was always kind and always caring; always doing what Jesus would do. He always had an encouraging word for anyone he spoke with even at his sickest moments. He never lost sight of what was most important, even when prayers were not answered the way we all wanted or hoped. He was an amazing husband, a wonderful father, caring brother and friend. He never gave his family a reason to doubt him, nor cause for embarrassment. He was always a provider and protector. If you were loved by Tommy Vaughn, then you knew what it truly meant to be loved.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shirley Vaughn; daughter Jaime Vaughn of Nashville, son Jared Vaughn and Daughter-in-Law Renee of Panama City Beach; granddaughters Makayla and Bailey; brother Ronald Vaughn (Charlotte) of Winston, GA and sister Judy Maddox (Tommy) of Dallas, GA; Brother-in-Law Bobby and Sister-in-Law Charlotte Purvis of Panama City Beach, Brother by Heart Larry Woodall (Fredna) of Smyrna, GA. and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents Rev. J.R. and Jerry Vaughn.

We wish to thank the medical staffs at Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center, Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast, and the office of Dr. William Flynn for their care of Tommy. They always treated him as a friend and not as a burden; always with grace, dignity and patience. We are forever grateful for their service.

Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love—but the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 (His favorite verse and did he ever live it out.)

The funeral will be at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. The family will receive guests from 1-2 PM prior to the service at 2 pm.

Those desiring may make a memorial donation to Wells of Hope International at wellsofhopeinternational.org in memory of Tommy Vaughn.
