Thelma Lee Stokes, 87, of Panama City, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, surrounded
by family at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Panama City, Florida.
Ms. Stokes was born on June 10, 1937, in Alexander Arkansas, to Alvie and Susie Reynolds Rogers.
She received her general education in Alexander Arkansas. Thelma Stokes worked for Emro -Marathon
Oil as a District Manager in various locations across the southeast and retired from Happy Stores, Inc.
After retirement, she found her calling as a foster parent and fostered a countless number of
children over many years in Bay County, Florida. She was a member of Sandhills Baptist Church and
later transitioned to Trinity Pentecostal Tabernacle. Ms. Stokes enjoyed spending time with her
family and reading novels.
She was preceded in death by her great granddaughter Stella Adams. Daughters Karen Marie Whitener,
and Jacqueline (Jackie) Jones. Sons Michael David Smith and Charles Sydney Stokes. Sisters Lorene
Claghorne, Irene Craig, Viola Simons, and Mildred Breeding.
Ms. Stokes is survived by her son Gary Breeding (Debbie), daughters Sheila Branch (Gene) and
Katherine Rogers (Joseph), thirteen grandchildren and a growing number of great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, 11:00AM, at Wilson
Funeral Home.
