TED CARROLL BYRD

Ted Carroll Byrd, 75, of Southport, died Tuesday, November 15, 2011 in his home. He was born November 16, 1935 in Ozark, Alabama to Isaac Carroll Byrd & Lucy Eunith Ezell Byrd. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Max Byrd, Lex Byrd; and two sisters, Wanda McKnight and Alma Jean Jackson. He is survived by his wife, Jeannette Byrd; daughter, Carol Ann DiMatteo; sister, Catherine Wise; step daughter, Sylvia Simpson; two step sons, Ricky Stiles (Sonia), Sam Stiles (Daneen); seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ted was a professional builder from the ground up. He was instrumental in building the bank on 23rd Street and the old jail. He worked for Bear Lumber Co. and Cabinet Shop in Montgomery, Alabama. He currently worked at the Wal-Mart on Panama City Beach for the past 12 years. He loved to work at Wal-Mart and loved all the workers and customers. His last day at work was Friday, November 12, 2011. Ted always had a smile and a good word for everyone. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the First Assembly of God Church of Southport. Interment will follow in Southport Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 – 8 p.m.
