IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Smithie Doris
D'Albertis
March 5, 1934 – March 21, 2021
Smithie Doris d'Albertis, 87, of Panama City, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2021. Smithie Doris was born on March 5, 1934 in Smithfield, NC but grew up in Kenly, NC and graduated from Glendale High School Kenly, NC in 1952. During her childhood she was a member of her family's gospel singing group. She married Louis Anthony d'Albertis in May 1952 and they were happily married for 43 years.
After marrying, Louis and Smithie Doris enjoyed many adventures together and saw the world as his postings in the U.S Air Force took them to Texas, Japan, South Carolina, Republic of Panama, and Colorado. During this time, Smithie Doris was very active in the Non-Commissioned Officers Wives Club, Family Services, and Protestant Chapel organizations at each base assignment and was involved in local community group projects, her favorite memories being interacting with children and their welfare. Smithie Doris was nominated for Military Wife of the Year in 1971. In 1973, they moved from Denver Colorado to Valdosta, Georgia. Smithie Doris was an active member of her church choir, a founding member of the local Civil Air Patrol unit in Valdosta, and Order of Eastern Star. She moved to Panama City, FL in 2007 to be closer to her family. She became a member of Agapa Temple No. 155, Daughters of the Nile and sang as a member of the Love Notes. She was a devoted wife and mother who absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fiercely intelligent with a sharp sense of humor and a quick wit, her beautiful laugh and smile will be sorely missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.
Smithie Doris was predeceased by her husband, Louis Anthony d'Albertis; her parents, Darius J. Jones and Smithie N. Phillips, as well as her brother Earl Ray Jones and sister Audrey Laverne Retherford. She is survived by her sisters: Bertha Evelyn Pittman and Margaret Katherine Hollingsworth; children: Mike & Lynn d'Albertis, Catherine & Brian Benson, and Phil & Cheri d'Albertis; grandchildren: Sean & Alicia Beattie, Shannon Beattie & Mark MacLeod, Dustin d'Albertis, Ashlyn d'Albertis, Ward & Summer Chester, Calvin Chester and her great-grandchildren Benjamin Beattie, Shiloh Beattie, Johanna Beattie, Trinity Chester, and Gavin Chester, nieces and nephews.
Viewing and family visitation will be at Wilson Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 30 from 1:00-3:00 pm followed by a memorial service. She will be interred with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
