Sidney Jackson Buxton, age 90, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Lisenby Nursing Home. He was born on January 14, 1926, in Moore Haven, Florida to Joseph Benjamin Buxton and Dora Mae Williams Buxton. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Ezella Buxton. He is survived by 3 sisters: Arthurine Wilson, Patricia Chancy, and Ruth Clements. Surviving children are: Joseph Buxton and wife Katie, William Buxton and wife Joan, and Elizabeth Sanders.
Surviving grandchildren are: Lora Knollmueller and husband David; Dana Sowell and husband Robin; Bryan Buxton and wife Vickie; James Bass and wife Georgia; Ben Buxton and wife Danielle; Frank Adkinson and wife Courtney; Leigh Jarvis and husband Matt; Marc Adkinson and wife Erin; Darren Crisp and wife Michelle; and Will Sanders.
Formerly an active duty Marine, Sidney retired from Federal Civil Service as an aircraft electrician and from Florida Division of Forestry as County Ranger supervisor for Bay County. He built numerous homes around Panama City, managed his own mobile home park, and still took time to coach, mentor, and play with his 10 grandchildren, taking several of them on trips as far north as Canada. He was a hero to many elderly people who counted on him to maintain their homes, appliances, and vehicles.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bobby Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service.
