Obituary

Shirley Jean Jones, 88, of Panama City, Florida left this temporary home to be with the Lord on December 4, 2019 following an extended illness. Shirley was able to stay home in her last days with the help of her daughters, granddaughters, caregiver and Covenant Hospice. She was born in St. Andrews-Panama City on February 25, 1931, in 1947 she married the love of her life, Mark E. Jones and began a family. She enjoyed boating, fishing, horses, and sewing. Shirley was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian in early life raising two daughters, then followed her husband to begin Covenant Presbyterian Church and lastly joined First Baptist Church in her later years helping raise her granddaughters, always seeking to love and serve the Lord. She graduated from Haney Technical School as a licenses practical nurse, then Gulf Coast College as a Registered nurse and later obtained a teaching degree in learning disabilities. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Mark E. Jones; her mother, Gussie Lucille Groom; her father, Thomas Graydon York; brothers, Bert York, Arthur York; sister, Carol Middlebrooks; brother-in-law, Russell Geyer; nieces, Paige York, Pamela Middlebrooks and Carolyn Geyer. Survivors include daughters , Janna Jones Hilburn (Donald), Phyllis G. Jones (Paul Welch); beloved granddaughters and light of her life, Katlyn Jena Jones, Savannah Lark Jones; brother, Clem York (Clara) and family ; sister, Phyllis Geyer and family; numerous nieces and nephews. The family is following Shirley's request that her passing be quietly mourned by family and her new life be celebrated with joy and remembrance.
