1930 - 2012

Shirley Johns Dean passed into the next phase of her eternal life August 19, 2012, and God has added another angel to join his family. Shirley was born August 17, 1930, in Jacksonville, FL as the middle child of three sisters, whose parents were Raymond Archibald and Gladys Evelyn Johns.

She met the love of her life, Carlton Maxwell Dean, in high school and enjoyed 52 happy years together before his passing in 2002. They had moved the family to Panama City in 1955 making this their home.

Shirley was a loving and devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother and sharing precious moments with all her family and friends was a cherished memory for her. She was an active member of St. Andrew Baptist Church, Gleaners Sunday School Class, and the Joy Singers (before her illness). It gave her great joy to serve the Lord.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, parents, younger sister, Kathy E. Collins; and beloved grandson, Allen Page, Jr. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Susan Danford (Dick), and Cheryl Page (Allen) of Panama City; two sons, Michael R. Dean of Clarksville, TN, and T. Mitchell Dean of Panama City; three grandchildren, Michael C. Dean (Erica) of Blue Ridge, GA, Patrick Dean (Lauren) of Front Royal, VA, and Cheri Dawson (Greg) of Nashville, TN; four great-grandchildren, Lauren and Madyson Dean, Sarah and William Dawson; sister, Phyllis Washington; nephew, Eddie Washington, Jr; nieces, Deborah Rankin (Hugh), Shirley Ann Valbueno (Julian), Amie Williamson (Joey) and Allison Collins, all of Jacksonville, FL.

The family expresses sincere appreciation to Panama City Dialysis Center, Care with a Flair, and Bay Medical Covenant Hospice; as well as her special friends at St. Andrew Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Michael Claunch officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2 – 3 p.m. prior to the service. A private family burial will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Covenant Hospice Care Center, 615 N. Bonita Ave, Panama City, FL 32401 or to the St. Andrew Baptist Church Building Fund, 3001 W Highway 98, Panama City, FL 32401 in memory of Shirley Dean.
