Sandy Wilton Andrews, 88, of Lynn Haven, Florida, died Sunday, July 10, 2011, at his home. He was born November 22, 1922, in Macon, Georgia, to Sandy Alexander and Lily Olympia Andrews. He graduated from Lanier High School in Macon, Georgia, and then served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
Sandy moved to Bay County in 1946 after accepting a position with Wayside Nurseries. After marrying his wife, Betty Mowat Andrews, in 1950, he joined the family business, Mowat Dairy. He also raised beef cattle on his farm in Washington County. Upon his retirement in 1987, he was involved with other family members in the development of Mowat Highlands subdivision.
Sandy was active in various community affairs and organizations. He served on the Lynn Haven City Commission in the 1950's. At a young age, he joined the Independent Order of Oddfellows and held many positions of leadership. He was a member of the Lynn Haven Lions Club for over 60 years and was a Melvin Jones Fellow, the highest honor given by the Lions. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Bay County Farm Bureau for many years.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven for 60 years, where he was an ordained elder.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Helene Andrews Arrington. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Mowat Andrews, of Lynn Haven; five children, Marti Willis (Charles), Marcia Forehand (Benny), Bill Andrews (Lisa), James Andrews, all of Lynn Haven, and Janet Williams (Peter), of Tallahassee, Florida; seven grandchildren, Chris Forehand (Kelly), Tyler Andrews, Hudson Williams, Dillon Williams, Skye Williams, Jessica Willis, and Talitha Locklear; 2 great-grandchildren, Cason Forehand and Conolly Forehand; sister, Elsie Andrews Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank his special caregivers, Charlene Lamar, Carolyn Smith, and Simone Smiley.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven with the Reverend Dr. Dan Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the Lynn Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
