Ruth Mead Edmands passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2015. She was born on March 12, 1930, in Leominster, Mass, to John and Elsie Mead, and grew up in Belmont, Mass. She graduated from Belmont HS and Chandler Secretarial College in Boston. On May 21, 1955, Ruth married her Belmont HS classmate, and the love of her life, Wally Edmands. Ruth and Wally lived in 8 different states during Wally's 34 career with Ford Motor Company. Ruth and Wally were longtime residents of Sandestin, Fla, spending the summer months in their beloved New England. Ruth was an especially devoted and loving mother. She was an active volunteer her entire life. She served with Welcome Wagon, the Newcomers Club, Children's Hospital of Denver, Green Thumb Garden Club of Santa Rosa Beach, Sacred Heart Hospital Emerald Coast Volunteer Association, and Caring & Sharing in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. Ruth enjoyed worldwide travel, knitting, reading, bowling, and spending time in the company of family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Ruth is survived by her four children and their spouses, Wallace M. Edmands (Chip) and Mary Russell Edmands of Fayetteville, GA; Jack Edmands and Judy Edmands of Memphis, TN; Lindsey Edmands Burns and Jack Burns of Beaverton, OR; Kim Edmands Hicks and Lee Hicks of High Bridge, NJ; and her grandchildren, Zach Edmands, Matthew Edmands, Taryn Burns, Joseph Edmands, Delaney Burns, Keon Burns, Amy Hicks and Jenny Hicks. Her husband, Wally, and her two brothers, Jack and Bob Mead, predeceased her. Ruth will be remembered for her witty humor, Boston accent, and her deep love for her family and friends. She especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren, attending their many activities. She truly adored them; they adored her profoundly. A funeral mass will be celebrated for Ruth at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla; on Sunday, May 17, at 2:00 pm.
