Obituary

Ruth Powell Brewton died Sunday, November 30, 2008. A native of' Henry County, Alabama, she graduated from Eufaula High School in 1930 and married Evon E. Brewton of Panama City, Florida, the same year. She had resided in Panama City, except for two years in Tallahassee and three years in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida.
She was a partner in Brewton Investment Company and served as Secretary for Brewton Engineering Company, Inc., Brewton Materials, Inc. of Tallahassee, Florida, and Brewton Materials, Incorporated of Dothan, Alabama. She was a homemaker and active in the First Baptist Church of Panama City, where she was a member of Bonnie Spears' Bible Class. She was also a member of the Women's Club, the Garden Club, As You Like It, Petit Point Club, served as President of the Concert Association, worked with the Red Cross as a volunteer and was an aircraft spotter during World War II. Ruth was one of nine children of William Angus Powell and Claudia Sholes. She was predeceased by her husband, Evon E. Brewton, grandson, Bryan, siblings, Frank Powell, Mary Edwards, Will Powell, Raleigh Powell, Eldridge Powell, Morris Powell, Virginia Freeman, son-in-law, David Talley and special nephew, Andre' Brewton. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Talley, Lutz, Florida; son, Powell Brewton and wife Rita, of Dothan, Alabama; sister, Kathryn Davis, grandchildren; Yvonne and Randy Buffington; Yvette and Eric Maugham; Annette and Michael Phebus; Lynn and Brian McCluskey; Brad and Kandy Brewton; Leslie and Robert Robinson and Lara and Travis Provencher; fourteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial donations to the Memorial Fund of First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1200, Panama City, FL 32402.
