Obituary

Russell Earl Caswell
April 5, 1942-February 21, 2016

On February 21, Russ passed peacefully gazing into the eyes of Jesus. He had his family and a dear friend by his side.
Russ was 73 years old, growing up in St. Andrew, "in the best of places and in the best of times." He graduated in the Bay High class of 1960, and graduated from FSU in 1966 with his B.S. and M.B.A. He and his devoted wife Shirlea were fortunate enough to live in twelve states from coast to coast, making life-long friends all along their journey.
Russ retired in 2004, when he and Shirlea returned to Panama City to enjoy their daughter and son-in-law, Shannon and Scott Taylor. They loved dividing their time between home and the beautiful mountains of Virginia.
Russ was blessed by the ministry at First Baptist Church, Larry Bruce's Sunday school class and the Tuesday Men's Bible Study.
Russ was preceded in death by his father Johnnie Earl Caswell. He is survived by his wife Shirlea Hawk Caswell, daughter Shannon Taylor (Scott), mother Ruth Lunsford Caswell, sister Laura Jenkins (William), many nieces and nephews, his sweet yellow lab granddog, Colby, and his faithful companion pug James Cagney.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Sylvia Gentry, our Virginia hospice nurse, Lisa Despres, our special Covenant Hospice nurse, Diane and Becky, our aides, all of the doctors, nurses, aides, and staff of Covenant Hospice at Bay Medical. The family also wants to thank all of Russ's doctors and nurses at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC.
Memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 28 at 2 PM at the First Baptist Church of Panama City in the C.C. Moore Chapel (Grace Avenue entrance). The family will receive friends at the chapel from 1-2 PM Sunday prior to the service. A reception will be held following the memorial service. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, consider honoring Russ with a donation to Covenant Hospice of Panama City or the SECU Family House, 1970 Baldwin Lane, Winston-Salem, NC, 27103.
