Roy Edward Sasser Sr., passed away at his home in Chipley, Thursday evening, July 18, 2019. He was born in Hartford, Alabama on February 20, 1939 to Howard Milton and Bonnie Lucile Hall Sasser. When he was four, his family moved to St. Andrews where he grew up, attending Drummond Park Grammar, Jinks Junior High and graduated from Bay High in 1957. He was Baptist by faith. He joined the Navy and served his country four years aboard the USS Saratoga. He returned to Panama City and married Annette Moates. They moved to the Atlanta area where they raised their three sons. After retirement as a trainman from Norfolk Southern Railway they moved to Chipley to a small farm where he enjoyed remodeling the 1906 farmhouse and raising many fruits and vegetables. He loved to fish and hunt especially in his early years.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Christopher and Arizona Kirkland Sasser and Grover and Rachel Hinson Hall; his father and mother; his second mother, Lena Mae Colley Sasser; brother in law, Allen Kelly. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Annette Moates Sasser; his sons, Roy Edward Sasser Jr. (Rita), Kevin Patrick Sasser (Hope), Richard Keith Sasser (Angela); grandchildren, Taylor Breann Sasser and Tyler Jordan Sasser; siblings, Ganell Kelly, Gail Kaiser (Danny), Bonnie Brazel (David), Howard Sasser Jr. (Debbie), Terry Sasser (Pam), Colley Sasser, Sandra Clark (Kenny); and his nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with Rev Michael Orr officiating, the family will receive friends at the cemetery from 9:30 to 10 a.m.
