Roy Lemoine Houpt Jr., 88, of Parker passed away Thursday, Sept. 11 2014 at the Panama City Nursing Center. He was born January 2, 1926 in Lenni Mills, Pa., the son of the late Roy Lemoine Houpt Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Read. He attended Media High School in Media, Pa., before joining the U.S. Army in 1944. He earned the Bronze Star while serving in Third Army in WWII during the Central Europe Campaign in 1944-45. He graduated from the Pennsylvania Institute of Criminology in 1948. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and served in the Korean Conflict. He was stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base when he was honorably discharged in 1955. He later retired from the U.S. Army Reserves in 1986. Roy was a carpenter and worked in civilian positions at Tyndall Air Force Base and the Navy Base and numerous area contractors. Roy is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann Pratt Houpt; sister Ethel Woodruff of Media, Pa., sons Ron Houpt (Margarett) and Roy Houpt III (Penny); grand daughters Laura Macks, Kaitlin Shaw (Kristain) and Alexis Houpt; great grandsons Jesse Gore and Alvin Macks; and great granddaughters Haylee Shaw and Preslee Shaw.
Roy was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Ann Houpt, and sister Mary (Cissy) Founds. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Parker United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Parker Cemetery.
