Ronald Garry Terrell, 80, of Panama City, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024. He was born September 2, 1944 in Montgomery, Alabama. Garry grew up in Prattville, AL and graduated in the class of 1962 from Prattville High School. He graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor's degree in Special Education, while winning the 1965 SEC Championship in the 1/2 mile run. He was a retired teacher and coach (track, cross country, football) at Bay High School having served for 36 years, earning the privilege of having the track at Tommy Oliver Stadium named the Garry Terrell Track of Champions in his honor. He put Bay County track and field on the map by beginning the North Florida Relays meet at Tommy Oliver Stadium and ran them annually for 26 years. He was an assistant coach of the 1976 Bay High School state championship football team. As his friends and colleagues describe him, "He was a fierce competitor and great motivator of young athletes and students for many years at Bay High School." His legacy lives on in the lives of those he touched.
Garry was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven since 1986 and he loved his church family. If there was a job to be done around the church he always offered to help. Optimistic, humble, generous and patient are the qualities he was known by. He lived a life of intentional love for the Lord.
As far as hobbies, Garry was an avid bird hunter who loved the outdoors and sports. He was a diehard Alabama fan across all sports especially football and softball, frequently traveling to watch these sports with his friends and family. He kept in close touch with most of his high school and college friends his entire life by organizing and taking part in many events and get togethers.
He was a devoted father, caring grandfather ("Pops"), loving brother and loyal friend. On most days, you would find him enjoying eating lunch out with his many friends, driving his grandchildren around town, cheering them on while they compete in multiple sports or simply spending time with his family.
