Dr. Rollins (Sandy)  Wilfred Atkinson, 80, of Panama City, FL passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025. He was born on July 23, 1944 in Montreal, Canada to Justice Atkinson and Harriett Boardman Moore. He served in the United States Air Force retiring after 22 years of service at the rank of Master Sergeant. He earned his PHD in both Physics and in Science.  Rollins loved flying and was a member of the Panama City Ham Radio Club and the Sandy Creek Air Club (E.A.A.). He was President of the Classic Car Club for many years. He loved old cars and restoring them. He had a 1964 Impala convertible that the whole family loved. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Atkinson and twin daughters; his parents and one sister, Donna. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen Ruth Atkinson; two children, Timothy Atkinson, Shannon Atkinson; eight grandchildren, Timothy Atkinson, Geoffrey Atkinson, Alex Atkinson, Katrina Atkinson, Jessica Atkinson, Tyler Wiehl, Dylan Wiehl and Katelyn Wiehl. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Hankins officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. , prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial donations to Calvary Baptist Church in memory of Rollins Atkinson.
