ROLAND PRICE "SHEP." SHEPARD JR.
Roland Price "Shep." Shepard Jr., 79, of Panama City, died Monday, October 6, 2008 in his home. He was born November 13, 1928 in Bend, Oregon. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 26 years, retiring as Boatsman Mate Senior Chief of the St. Andrew Coast Guard Station on May 1, 1973. BMSC Shepard supervised transfer of the Coast Guard Station from the dock at St. Andrews Marina to the present Panama City Beach Naval Surface Warfare Center. He also was instrumental in the creation of the "Long Glass Club" and Non-Commissioned Officer Facility at the Naval Surface Warfare Center. He was a member of the American Legion Post 356, the Fleet Reserve, the NRA and was a former member of the Elks Club and Moose Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland & Eva Shepard Sr. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Shepard; daughter, Gerry Dee Sott and husband, Ron; granddaughter, Roni Ann McKee and husband, Jon; and 2 great grandsons, David McKee and Jarred McKee. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Forest Lawn Cemetery with military honors to be conducted at the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions to be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Roland P. Shepard Jr. The family would like to thank Dr. McKenzie and Dr. Josten for their excellent care.
