ROBERT ARTHUR WALSH
Robert A. Walsh, of Panama City, died Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Gulf Coast Medical Center. He had been a resident of Bay County since 1969 moving here from Maryland. He retired as a fighter pilot from the U.S. Air Force in 1969 after having graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY in 1946. He served in the Korean and Vietnam theaters of war where he was awarded numerous decorations including Distinguished Flying Crosses, Air Medals, Bronze Star, Joint Services Commendation Medal, and many others. In Panama City, he served as Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Gulf Coast Community College for 16 years and as commander of the Saint Andrew Bay Power Squadron in 1978. His wife, Katherine B. Walsh, predeceased him in 1995. He is survived by his son, Robert A Walsh II and wife Mary Lewis, of Columbus, Georgia, and his daughter, Virginia Allgood and husband Charles of Albertville, Alabama. Other survivors include his sister, Sarah Jane Hedborg of Connecticut and granddaughters; Courtney Walsh, Katherine and Laura Allgood. Family members will receive friends at the Wilson Funeral Home from 4 to 6 pm on Wednesday. A private family graveside service will be held at the West Point Cemetery, West Point, NY where he will be interred with his wife, Katherine. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4001 W 23rd Street, Suite C, Panama City, FL 32405 in memory of Robert Walsh.
