Robert Wesley (Bob) Lawrence, age 80, passed away at a local medical facility on September 24, 2015 following an 11 week illness. He was born November 21st, 1934 in San Diego, California to Anna Lee and Charles (Bud) Lawrence who preceded him in death. The family moved to Panama City when Bob was eight years old. Bob was a proud graduate of Bay High School class of 1952. He attended Gulf Coast Community College and the University of Florida. Bob worked in the construction industry with his father before working as a building inspector for the city of Panama City and then the Bay County building division. He served his country in the U.S. Army. After attending Army language school, he served as a translator in Korea for seventeen months. He was a former member of the Panama City Kiwanis Club. Bob was very active in the B.P.O. Elks having been the Exalted Ruler of the local Elks Lodge five times as well as being a past State Vice President and a District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler. He was both a life member and an honorary life member. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lois, his adored daughter, LeAnne Laird (George) and his beloved granddaughter, Hannah Laird. Also surviving him are his brothers, Charles (Buddy) and wife Elaine and William (Bill) and his wife Margery, along with their children Scott Lawrence (Lorie), Rex Lawrence (Debbie), Doug Lawrence (Amy), Michael Lawrence (Tanza), David Lawrence (Ashleigh), Daina Barber (Lance), David Tilson (Jenny), Tammy Kirkland (Stephen) and numerous great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held at Wilson Funeral Home from 5-7 on Sunday, September 27. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church on Monday, September 28 at 11:00 with Rev. Steve Rascoe officiating. Burial will follow immediately at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 903 E. 4th Street, Panama City, FL 32401. The family would like to thank Dr. Tim Smith, Dr. Timothy Moriarty and the caring medical professional staff at Gulf Coast Medical Center ICU and Select Specialty Hospital. They were all truly angels. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, where he sang in the chancel choir as well as the Hims of Grace gospel ensemble. Active pallbearers will be Scott Lawrence, Rex Lawrence, Doug Lawrence, Michael Lawrence, David Tilson, Willard Dean, Allen Barnes, and Curtis Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Tim Smith, Grady Collier, all former members of Elks Lodge #1598 and former co-workers with the Bay County Building Department.
