Obituary

Robert L. "Bob" Vallance, II, passed away on April 6, 2022, at the age of 74 in Panama City, Florida. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and known to many friends as Cowboy Bob.

Bob was born on October 20, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas, to Robert L. Vallance, Sr. and Rose Francis Stipp Vallance. He was baptized October 1955. Bob attended San Antonio ISD schools and San Antonio College.

During Bob's earlier years, he and his father flew pigeons for competition. He was a Cub Scout. He was the Mascot of the House of Representative of the 56th legislature in1959, and his picture is located in the Texas State Capitol.

At age 13, Bob started helping his father at Vallance Security. He continued building the company, holding numerous positions including president until retirement a couple of years ago. Even though he retired, he continued in an advisory position and was in contact with the business multiple times each month.

While working for Vallance, Bob also worked as a Leon Valley PD Reserve Officer and later a Precinct 3 Reserve Officer. He had 20+ years as a San Antonio CrimeStopper member holding numerous positions including president. Bob was a 20+ year Rotarian with perfect attendance plus holding numerous positions including president. He helped to arrange for sister clubs in Takamatsu, Japan and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Since 1985, Bob was a member of the San Antonio Executive Association and headed numerous committees. For many years, he served on the Schertz Economic advisory board. Bob was a member of the South Texas Alarm Association and the Texas Burglar and Fire Alarm Association holding numerous positions in both. He was a San Antonio Livestock Exposition Life Member.

Bob met Nadene Thurmond October 1973 in San Antonio and married the love of his life on March 29, 1974. They were married for 48 years. Both coached soccer. They volunteered their time for Rotarian functions and both became Paul Harris Fellows. In their spare time, they hunted, fished, water skied, and snow skied in US, Canada, and Italy. Later in life, they loved to golf. Two years ago they moved to Panama City to be with Stacilyn, Chris, Clayton, and Colby. He saw his grandsons daily and attended their functions including high school graduation, baseball tournaments, and choir concerts. At these functions, Bob made many friends and was known for his humor, laughter, smile, and his beautiful blue eyes. They attended First Baptist Church of Panama City with Stacilyn and family.

He is survived by his wife, Nadene Thurmond Vallance, children Stacilyn Hawkins (husband, Chris) and Robert Vallance III (wife, Andrea), his grandchildren Clayton and Colby Hawkins and Nicholas and Christopher Vallance. He is also survived by siblings, Kathleen Beierle (husband, Larry) and Luanna Burns (husband, Daryl) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be on Tuesday, May 24, 5-9 p.m., at The Club of Sonterra in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Mays Cancer Center (UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center) or the M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
