Robert Leroy Gainous, 90, passed away on April 15, 2026 in Gulf Breeze, Florida.

Born on October 14, 1935, he graduated from Port St. Joe High School in 1953, attended both FSU and UF, and then served in the Air Force in the late 1950s, stationed in Germany as a flight simulator instructor. He returned to Panama City, Florida, after the Air Force and was employed at International Paper in the computer department. During this time, he met Barbara, the love of his life, and was married for 53 years until her passing in 2019. He retired from Wellstream Corporation after working in its quality control group. After Hurricane Michael, he moved to Gulf Breeze to live with his daughter and her family.

He is survived by his daughter Leigh Gainous Westholm, son-in-law Larry, and granddaughter Kate. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Barbara Walker Gainous; parents Leroy Gainous and Venice (Ned) Perritt Gainous (later Bates); and siblings Susan Davis, Venice Russell, and John Bates.

The family wishes to especially thank the nurses and staff at Bay Breeze Rehabilitation in Gulf Breeze, as well as Vitas Healthcare Hospice staff for their care and support of Bob.

Interment will be private.
