RICHMOND R. LEWIS
Richmond R. Lewis, Lt. Col., USAF Retired, passed away on February 14, 2009. He was born in Southport, NC and spent his childhood there. He and his late wife, Elizabeth, had resided in Bay County since 1973. Col. Lewis retired from the Air Force after serving 27 years. As a bomber pilot in World War II, he fought in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. Following a tour as a ferry pilot stateside, he journeyed to India as a transport pilot to fly the "Hump", the dangerous 530-mile long passage over the Himalayan Mountains in the China/Burma/India Theater. During the Korean War and the Vietnam War, he served as Security Officer, including two tours with the National Security Agency (NSA). Surviving are his four children: Linda Lewis, Pasadena, MD, Gregory Lewis, Mechanicsville, MD, Wanda Broadway, Apopka, FL, and William Lewis, Milton, FL, as well as five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. There will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Emerald Coast Hospice, Panama City, FL.
