RICHARD ERWIN MAPES
Richard Erwin Mapes, 71, Panama City, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2011 in a Birmingham Alabama hospital. He was born April 9, 1940 in Panama City. He received a football scholarship at the University of Southern Mississippi. He was an oil well wire line specialist for 40 years before retiring in 2001. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Mapes; 2 sons, Richard Nelson Mapes, Ronnie Martin Mapes; 3 grandchildren, Kyler Addison Mapes, Mark Nelson Mapes, Matthew Ryan Mapes and a sister, Diane Peterson and husband, Pete. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall Chapel at First Baptist Church of Panama City. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8 p.m. Active pallbearers will be Clint Campbell, Jimmy Warren, Mitch Marshall, Danny Martin, Robert Padgett, Harmen Brannon, Griff Ennis and Jeremy Roacher. Honorary pallbearers will be team members from Southern Mississippi.
