Richard was born in Panama City, Florida on November 24, 1942 to Evelyn and Jasper Richard Youd. He grew up in Panama City and graduated from Bay High School in 1960. After serving two years in the Army National Guard, he graduated from his father's alma matter, Springhill College. He spent his professional career in the banking industry. His first banking job was with Bay Bank and Trust. In 1967, he accepted a position with Warrington Bank in Pensacola, Florida as a vice president and loan officer. In the mid-seventies, Richard opened Corry State Bank in Pensacola with a group of investors. An avid duck hunter, fisherman, and diver, Richard spent many weekends on the water. Throughout his life, countless weekends were spent at the lake with family and friends.
