Richard G. Barker Sr. 72, of Bayou George, passed away May 25, 2015. He was born February 23, 1943 in Geneva, Alabama to Lamar and Verlie Mae Barker. He retired in 1990 from the Bay County Sherriff's Department where he had been employed for over 20 years. He was the owner and operator of Rivercraft Marine for 37 years before selling it last year. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard Gene Barker Jr.; brothers, Robert Barker and Ed Barker; and grandson, David Lawrence. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Marshall Barker; children, Carolyn Lawrence (Tom), Sondra Provost, Debra Welch (Bill), and Lee Barker (Pamela); 13 grandchildren, Sarah Hannon, Thomas Lawrence, Michael Lawrence, Matthew Lawrence, Daniel Lawrence, Andrew Lawrence, Latasha Hampton, Buerl Jankowski, Heather Soto, William Welch, Derek Barker, Carson Barker and Andrew Barker; 5 great grandchildren, Nathan Jankowski, Hope Jankowski, Natalie Hannon, Haylie Hannon and Zariella Soto; sister, Frances Burchill; and numerous nieces and nephews. Several of Richard's greatest achievements in life was when he became a mason. He was asked to join the Callaway Masonic Lodge. Later on he became a Shriner and enjoyed working to help the children sponsored by Shaddai Shriner Center. Also, he joined the Shaddai Cruisers, Scottish Rites and several others. He was also a member of the Deerpoint Lake Assembly of God, where he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Curtis Kent officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites conducted at the graveside. Asked to serve as active pallbearers will be Andrew Barker, Thomas Lawrence, Matthew Lawrence, William Welch, Derek Barker, Carson Barker, Juan Soto and Buerl Jankowski.
