Phyllis Carol Defenderfer , née Hinnefeld, 7 7, of Panama City Beach, Florida passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023. She was born on July 11, 1945 in Seymour, Indiana. She was a graduate of Indiana University and of Christian Theological Seminary, where she earned the degree of Master of Marriage and Family Therapy, after which she worked in that field for many years. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Martha Hinnefeld, aunts Frieda Masher, Billie Byars, Ruth Pardieck, and uncle Edwin Hinnefeld. She is survived by her husband, Paul Joseph Defenderfer, children Ben and Katharine, sisters Judy Walwyn and Billie Hinnefeld, nephew Robert Barker, nieces Alison Wyrwicz, Gillian Stadelman, and Serena Dawn DeVine, and her many other extended family members and friends. Phyllis was a graceful spirit who loved her family and the natural world, and who lived her life with joy, nurturing, and with an infectious laugh. A private family service will be held at a later date.
