Obituary

Phyliss Grace Sherman, age 96, of Panama City, Florida, passed away January 21, 2026.

She graduated from Lakeview High School, Chicago, Illinois in 1946, followed by Chicago Teachers College, a graduate in 1948.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband; Walter "Wally" Sherman, her parents; Henry and Stella Bohlke, her sister; Penelope Kopp, and brothers; Leonard Bohlke and Howard Bohlke.

She is survived by her cousins; David, Gloria and Julie Biederstadt of Loveland, Colorado, her children; Sandra Sherman (Joe Breddan) of Boulder, Colorado, Richard Sherman of Panama City, Florida, Suzanne Alexander of Byron, Georgia, her grandchildren; Carlee Alexander of Byron, Georgia, Thomas Alexander (Nina) of Dickinson, North Dakota; her great-grandchildren; Aaliyah, Cole and Vayda Mae of Dickinson North Dakota.

She loved her sister, traveling to Chicago every year and went on many trips across the country and Europe. Her son recognized her as "you're a good cooker, mom". She loved entering the cooking contests at the News Herald and won many ribbons and prizes. She started very young learning how to sew for herself. As a homemaker she was a seamstress extraordinaire, made hand-smocked matching outfits for her grandchildren, made bed quilts and pillows, made 18 custom dolls for her grand daughter, knitted scarves and hats for family and friends , crocheted rugs and afghan blankets, embroidered Christmas ornaments, upholstered and made drapes. She volunteered as a Bay Medical Auxiliary member and knitted 2,200 newborn baby bonnets. Afterwards she volunteered in the local chapter of Project Linus and made dozens of children's quilted blankets.

Above all else, Phyliss loved her family. Time spent together - especially during holidays - was sacred to her and brought her the greatest joy.

She will be remembered for her devotion to her church family, and the lasting impression of all those that knew and loved her.

The family will hold a private service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Project Linus.
