Obituary

Pera Lee Strickland Peacock, was born to Alexander Hershel & Bessie Lee Stricklen on January 6, 1923, in Washington County, FL and lived her earlier years in Calhoun County, FL. She passed away on January 4, 2020, at the age of 96, two days short of her 97th birthday. Pera Lee was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Charles F. Peacock; sisters, Willie Mae Newton, Pauline Johnson; brothers, Frank Stricklen, James Stricklen, and Junior Stricklen. She is survived by her six children, Stony Peacock (Sue), Charlotte Davis (Jerrell, deceased), Carolyn Prows (Rudolph), Robert Peacock (Kathy), Pauline Morgan (Buddy), Roberta Janas (Bob); fourteen grandchildren, Charles, Tina, Jerry, Kevin, Keith, Karyn, Robert, Allison, Jacqueline, Ike, Wesley, David, Jamie, Neil; thirty-three great grandchildren, five great, great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces whom she loved with a happy heart. Pera Lee was one of the founding members of Midway Baptist Church and shared many bouquets of her beautiful flowers to place on the alter. At that time, she and her late husband loved working with the church's youth group. When asked, who was her "best friend", she would always point to the heavens. As a community service, she was the leader of her youngest daughter's Girl Scout troop. Her interests were many, but most important to her was family. Sewing and cooking for her family brought her great pleasure. She spent many, many hours in her flower and vegetable gardens. Also, many entertaining stories of her fishing adventures were readily shared by her. Her family found it amusing that she could "out fish" her fishing partners on any given day. Sharing her laughter with others and her light hearted wit always came naturally. She was "quite a lady" in the words of her late husband. She and her husband raised their family in Bay County, Florida, and after retirement moved to Calhoun County for a quiet country life of gardening and fishing the Dead Lakes. The family is grateful to Ann Robbins, her niece, for her loving attention through the years. The family would like to express appreciation to her longtime physician, Dr. Michael Barnes, and her UAB physician, Dr. Kerri Bevis. A special thank you goes to Emerald Coast Hospice, Covenant Hospice and Bright Star Care. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Matt Spencer and Rev. Craig Brannon officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Graveside services will be held on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Chipola Cemetery, Altha, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emerald Coast Hospice, Covenant Hospice, Cypress Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Kinard, FL or to Midway Baptist Church, Panama City, FL.
