Paul A. Longstreth

Paul Alfred Longstreth, 83, passed away on June 11, 2007 at his home from a brief battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Paul was born August 1, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Woodstown, NJ. He served his country in the Army Air Corp in W.W.II as a hydraulic specialist on B29 aircraft stationed in the Pacific aboard the floating maintenance ship FS205, going from island to island repairing damaged aircraft. After his service to our country he returned home to Woodstown becoming very active in the political & business scene. He joined his father in the construction business for a couple years. He & Betty started Longstreth Plumbing, Heating & Fuel Oil Business also, Longstreth Construction Company building many custom homes. As well as Longstreth Trucking Company in conjunction with the Wickes Corp., they established ICC rights into 5 states. Paul's determination had him selling as much materials to building contractors as Wickes' outside salesmen were selling. In 1967 that business sold when in 1968 Paul was approached by the Wickes Corp., to join their management team as a General Manager. He also held General Manager Positions with West Building Materials Company, Affiliated Homes Center, and G & H Home Centers, allowing Paul and his family to live in Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, and several locations in Florida.
Paul was a very active member and Past Commander of the American Legion, as well as President of the Kiwanis Club, and President of the Chamber of Commerce in Woodstown, N. J. In 1982 Paul and his family moved to Panama City where he and his son, Bud started Longstreth Construction Co. building custom homes and specializing in interior trim work and stairways.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents Alfred Eugene and Clara Samuels Longstreth, and his granddaughter Martha Elizabeth Stickney. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Smith (Betty) Longstreth, his son Paul A. Longstreth, Jr. (Bud), daughters Elizabeth Anne Kleine and husband Larry, Barbara L. Johnson and husband Johnny, Jean L. Clark and husband Bob. Ten grandchildren Stacey Myers, Ashley Ekstedt, Kent Floyd, Aaron Kleine, Matt Kleine, Lindsey Johnson, Cody Johnson, Michelle Stickney, David Stickney, and May-Li Clark and 6 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his older sister Helen Van Leer of Elmer, New Jersey, his nephews, Paul, Bill, and Eddie Van Leer, and a special niece, Clare Pierce, as well as many great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Floyd Wright and Rev. Dennis Pledger officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens with military honors at the graveside. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Those desiring to may make a contribution to Covenant Hospice, 107 West 19th Street, Panama City, Florida 32405 in memory of Paul A. Longstreth. The family will receive friends at their home in Deer Point Estates, 7110 West Lakeland Drive, following the service on Thursday.
