Pamela Rebecca Kennon, 78, of Panama City, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. She was born in Atlanta, GA on July 10, 1946, and grew up in Decatur, Georgia. Pam spent her life nurturing others through education, creativity, and friendship.
Pam attended the University of Georgia and graduated with a Bachelor of Education Degree in 1968. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority where she served as Treasurer. While attending UGA, she met the love of her life, Branch, on a blind date which turned out to be the luckiest day of his life (his words).
Pam had a lifelong passion for art and was skilled in a variety of mediums including watercolor painting and stained glass. She was very involved and supportive of the local arts community through the years. In addition to art, Pam loved playing tennis and enjoyed both the competition and friendships cultivated playing her favorite sport.
A dedicated educator, she taught at Tyndall Elementary and Hutchison Beach Elementary. Pam's combined love of both art and education helped transform art education for Bay County Students. In 1987 she received the League of Women Voters' Art in Schools Rose Award for her work in bringing comprehensive art education to Bay County Elementary School Students. Among other professional achievements, she was recognized as Bay County Elementary Science Teacher of the Year in 1994.
Pam dedicated much of her time in service to the community. Over the years she served in numerous volunteer service organizations including Gamma Sigma Sigma while at UGA and later the Junior League of Panama City, the Gulf Coast Women's Club, Bay County League of Women Voters, Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, and Bay County Teen Court.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Irene Smith and brother-in-law, Thomas Kennon. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, J. Branch Kennon; two sons, Jason (Tina) Kennon and Travis (Suzanne) Kennon; five grandsons, Hunter, Ty, Logan, Brantley, and Bryce Kennon; sister, Edwina (Phil) Murphy; brothers, Gordon (Pam) Smith and Eddie Smith; sister-in-law, Diane Kennon; brother-in-law Frank (Paula) Harshaw; niece Ginny (Frank) Liedtkys and nephews, Todd (Kim) Kennon, Greg (Candice) Kennon, Ryan (Shontel) Smith, Eric (Carolyn) Smith, and Zachary Smith; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at First United Methodist Church of Panama City with visitation following in the sanctuary.
