Opal Lewis Gill

Opal Lewis Gill of Panama City, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Panama City Nursing Center. Opal was Methodist by faith, having been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Millville, FL for 61 years. Opal was born July 28, 1918 to H. A. and Elizabeth Johnson Lewis in Arlington, Georgia. Opal moved with her family to the Panhandle of Florida at 18 months of age. Opal attended Panama Grammar School and Bay High School in Panama City.
Opal was married to George Aulred Gill on August 13, 1937. At the time of Aulred's passing on February 14, 2010, they had been married for 72 years.
Opal was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 68 years, joining the Parker Chapter #96, Parker, FL on April 8, 1945. Opal served in many offices and committees throughout the years and was Worthy Matron alongside her husband Aulred, as Worthy Patron, of the Parker Chapter in 1976. She was also
honored to have served as a Grand Representative of Wyoming in Florida in 1981.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Henry A. Lewis and David Y. Lewis.
Opal is survived by one sister, Marie Stubbs and one special sister in-law, Doris Lewis. She is also survived by her two children, John H. Gill (Hazel) and Mary Elizabeth Broxton (Grady); Four Granddaughters: Tammy Gill Shoupe (Eddie), Katrina Broxton Keith (David), Sjahn Broxton Large (Craig) and Gia Gill; Five Great Grandchildren: Tony Shoupe (Tonya), Lori Shoupe Wilkes (Patrick), Brock D. Keith, J. Gill Keith and Meghan E. Keith; Two Great-Great Grandchildren: Layton E. Wilkes and Brailey E. Keith; Three step grandchildren, Charles Brannen, Gerald Brannen, Nelda Brannen. She is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
Opal was a wonderful and loving wife, Mother and Grandmama. Furthermore, she was the epitome of a true Southern Lady. She was always quick with a wink and a smile to her loved ones and a genuine, "I love you the Most...and More." To our precious Mama and Grandmama, you are loved and will be missed more than you will ever know. Our loss is Heaven's gain.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wilson Funeral Home with Dr. John Friedman, presiding. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Active Pallbearers are Opal's Great Grandsons and Grandsons in-law. Requested to serve as Honorary Pallbearers are Members of the Order of the Eastern Star. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Wilson Funeral Home.
