Norma Irene Johnson, 82, of Panama City Beach, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2011. She was born September 29, 1928 in Flint, Michigan. She lived, worked and raised her family in Jackson, Michigan until 2004. Norma and her husband of 60 years Corky have been winter residents of Panama City Beach since 1989 and a permanent resident since 2004. She attended St. Andrew Baptist Church.
Norma worked as a registered nurse for 39 years in many levels and positions of nursing from basic hospital work to a head nurse in skilled nursing as well as director of nursing. The last 15 years of her career she worked as a rehabilitation specialist specializing in closed head injuries.
Norma had many interests mainly in the arts. Her love of music and singing has been lifelong pursuits. She has become a skilled artist in all medium as demonstrated in her many paintings. Her love of flowers was reflected in the beautiful plants and gardens she has grown over the years for herself, family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Merlyn "Corky" Johnson, 4 children, Yvonne Taylor (Pete), J.J. Douglas, Merlyn Johnson Jr.(Jill), Pam LaGosh (Larry); 6 grandchildren, Norman Taylor, Jordon Taylor, Jessica Wilson (Luke), Emily LaGosh, Austin LaGosh, Hannah LaGosh; 3 great grandchildren, Thai Johnson, Hunter Johnson, Callie Wilson and a sister, Elda Rose Bowen. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening 5:00 PM until 8:00PM.
